Obituary for Gerald R. Parlow

Gerald R. “Jerry” Parlow, 61, of La Crosse and formerly of Tomah and Camp Douglas, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.


He was born October 13, 1951, in Sparta, Wis., to Vernon and Amelia (Honel) Parlow. Jerry was confirmed at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church and graduated from 8th grade at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran School, both in Tomah. He graduated from Tomah High School in 1969. After taking a few classes at Western Wisconsin Technical Institute (now Western Technical College) in La Crosse, he enlisted in the United States Army. Jerry served two terms before being honorably discharged in 1976. After his military service, Jerry moved to Plover, Wis., where he worked for two years as a semi diesel mechanic for Moody’s Trucking. It was during this time he met Robin Bonsack and they were married December 16, 1978 in Wisconsin Rapids. Jerry and Robin moved to City Point, Wis., where Jerry worked at Dr. Mubarak’s 6M Cranberry Company for two years. After moving a couple more times, Jerry and Robin purchased a six acre hobby farm in rural Camp Douglas. Jerry was employed as a civilian at Ft. McCoy as a Biomedical Electrical Equipment Technician for the U.S. Army servicing six states. During his 26 years there, he was honored to receive three Service of Excellence Awards, one being personally given by the Surgeon General. In addition, Jerry and Robin owned and operated the Little Italy Pizza Place in Tomah for a couple years. After his retirement in 2007, he returned to Western Technical College in La Crosse where he attended classes in Supervisory/Management. In his pastime, Jerry enjoyed fishing and woodworking.


Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Robin of La Crosse; one daughter, Virginia (Brian) Moore of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; one son, Thomas Parlow of La Crosse; two grandchildren, Amelia and Jacob Moore; two sisters, Verna Jean Robinson of Enon, Ohio, and Sharon Rowell of Milston, Wis.; one brother, Donald (Maxine) Parlow of Belvidere, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Parlow of Tomah; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and June Bonsack of Almond, Wis.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.


In addition to his parents; Jerry was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Parlow and two brothers-in-law, Allen Robinson and Asa Rowell.


Memorial services will be Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, (Woodruff Chapel), 4239 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse. Rev. Bruce Iverson will officiate. Following the service, military honors will be rendered by the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. A time of fellowship will continue at the funeral home for friends and family following the military honors. There will be no burial.
